as it only needed to run the current area you were in which was usually not that big, not even comparable to single sector of X3 space.
You do realize that wingcommander ran maybe 1/10000th of the calculations needed to run even simple X3 universe at any given time. I just do like my enemy fighting to die rather than to live. Wing Commander gets my vote for fun and rewarding space battles. In Wing Commander the enemy was cleaver, resorcefull, and in many cases unpredictable. Even a child know that this kind of attack is just plain suicidal. For example: In my fully armed Titan I can always taunt a small fighter ship with 1 MW shields to do a head on I blast you while you blast me attack. In fact it nothing more than scripts with no real combat analysis that I can detect. for x3 is very rudimentary when compaired to yesturdays Wing Commander. One thing I can say about Wing Commander's space simulations was that it was not only near x3's graphic range but also didn't require Gigs of memory and computer speed to play. The enemy you fought had his or her own skill level, so a novice would be more likely to play chicken in a Buster Vs. This was especialy true in Wing Commander Privateer which was about as close to X3 as it was ever going to get. More importantly I recall the combat A.I. I also liked the faint blue glow of the shields as they were being pounded by enemy fire.
